The book is named "Slam", and it's written by the famous author Nick Hornby. It was issued in 2007, and since then it has been read thousands of times, especially by youths.
The book is about a boy named Sam and his problem(s). He's fifteen years old, and a skater. He lives in London together with his mum, and he is a happy and careless boy who spent his days out in the skating ramp with his friends. He is a big fan of the famous skater Tony Hawk, and he has a big poster of him in his bedroom. He uses to talk to him when he gets into trouble. And he really get's into trouble. He meets a girl, Alicia in a party at her place. It was not that sort of party though; it was a party in a job coherence with Alicia’s mum and his mum. They fall in love, and after a while Alicia gets pregnant. Sam is trying to face the fact that he's going to be a father in the age of sixteen, and he's starting having long conversations with the poster of Tony Hawk. He ends up escaping to Hastings, a town outside London. But after a while he realizes that he can't just run away from the truth like that, and travels back to London.
The genre of the book is roman. It's a longer story, and we get to know about many persons. There are a lot of descriptions, both of the persons and the environment.
For me, this book was a funny and touchy read. It's a book that describes in an excellent way the youth's problems today. But sometimes it was hard to read, because the author jumped into the future and back again many times. And I also got a little confused when he explained how things where like at some stage, and suddenly he just started to tell about something completely different from what he was telling me about in the first place. But all inn all it's a very good book, and sometimes I just couldn't put it away, because it was so exciting. I think maybe this is because the book is written in first person. The book suits for everyone between 13–18, because the book is about a youth and his problems, not about adults and their problems.
Like its reports from several magazines and newspapers, I think this book is funny, warm, witty and wise. That’s the perfect words to describe this book. A moving read for anyone!
